Why Animation Movies are Almost Always Blockbusters

Dreamworks Pixar fan!

Irrespective of what others feel, I think Animation (NOT Cartoon) movies are for all kids from 6 to 60 to enjoy.

Do you know there are at least 6 animation movies in the IMDb Top 250 movies of all time?

Scott Adams of The Dilbert Blog asked a creative question. What creatures are left for the next animation movies?

The Godfather and The Shawshank Redemption of the animation movie studio are Disney - Pixar and DreamWorks Animation SKG. But we have a problem. They ran out of creatures!

Let’s see the list of the creatures out of which we have blockbusters…

Toys - Toy Story 1 & 2, Robot (maybe)
Insects - A Bug’s Life, Antz (featured here)
Fishes - Finding Nemo, Shark Tale
Super Heroes - The Incredibles
Cars - Cars
Monsters - Monsters, Inc. , Shrek Trilogy
Birds - Happy Feet, Chicken Run, Chicken Little
Animals (of all kind) - Madagascar, Over the Hedge, The Wild, Wallace and Gromit
Pests - Ratatouille, Flushed Away, Stuart Little (if you can count this too)

Social Recommendation Site for Movies

I stumble upon a site MovieLens developed by folks at University of Minnesota. It was a cool site and instantly I liked the movie.

For movies, I used to visit only IMDb (of course) and Rotten Tomatoes before. Now I’ll start to use this site as well.

‘What movie should I watch?’

I’m going to tell the two biggest reasons why I like MovieLens and you might want to check it out:

Getting recommendations

This is all the site is about, give recommendation. MovieLens has shortcuts like Top Picks For You that provide you with quick access to common searches. You can use the Search tab to perform more advanced searches that filter by genre, date and save your favorite searches as personal shortcuts.

When you enter a movie, it recommends you a list of similar movie that you might like. Before you log in, you can try this feature (shown in the image below)

Sivaji is Truly The Boss

Sivaji :The Boss - Movie Review

Sivaji: The Boss - Movie Review

Sivaji rocks. Sivaji is cool. Don’t miss it.

That’s the review of the movie if you want me to cut short the review that’s going to follow.

I liked the movie and it was the best I saw this summer. Spiderman was trapped by his own web, Pirates sunk, Oceans 13 were caught red handed. I agree with Sudhish (a great movie review blog) when he says Superstar films shouldn’t be reviewed. They’re the Superhero movies of India!

Pirates of the Caribbean sunk at World’s End

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - Review

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End - Review

Pirates of the Caribbean 3 disappointed me and it was a complete let down. I looked for this movie more than any other summer releases. Pirates of the Caribbean sunk at World’s End.

Don’t get fooled by IMDb’s 8.6/10. It’s just 50% at Rotten Tomatoes.

World wide web of Spider-Man 3

Spiderman 3 Review

Spiderman 3 Review

I was so exited about the movie and I was waiting for 3 years to see the third installment of Spiderman 3. First thing that I did yesterday after coming to office was to call up the Cinemas and ask the details and by afternoon I got the tickets in hand!

The movie is doing amazing business where ever it released till now. People were eagerly waiting for this flick. It’s one of the very few movie that I’ve seen past midnight. Normally I don’t bother or have this had to craze to watch the movie as soon as it’s out. This movie kick starts a series of much awaited flicks as Shrek 3, Pirates of Caribbean 3, Oceans Thirteen, Harry Potter 5 and others. Spider-Man has truly cast a World Wide Web!

Eklavya - The Royal Mess

Eklavya Movie Review

Eklavya is a movie which I wanted to see eagerly. I liked the Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Munnabhai Sequel movie. The star cast was impressive. I had high expectation.

I didn’t know that the movie was releasing at this point of time, as I didn’t see any posters, ads or any kind of promotion. When my friend suggested we go to this movie on yesterday, it came as a sweet surprise. The seats weren’t available for the evening show, so we settled for the night show at 10:15 PM.

This time we wanted to go to Cine City at the Al Ghurair City. Earlier we had already been to Cinemas atAl Ghurair City and at Ajman Citi Centre.

My Impressions
Let me get into my impression on the movie.. I didn’t like it. The movie was slow and had a sombre (but the ending which was uplifting). Don’t get me wrong. There’s hardly any flaws, no unwanted naach-ganna, no unwanted hero-bashing-villains scenes, not lengthy, great acting by the actors, good cinematography, great direction and all that jazz.

But somehow I didn’t like it! The movie didn’t have substance. No great story nor screenplay. It was all about vengeance.

The acting was good. All the lead actors are pros and do the best what they’re doing. I dunno, I liked Sanjay Dutt (Munnabhai forever!), Vidya Balan (shes’ fresh and gorgeous) and Saif Ali Khan in this movie. Others also acted well. Sanjay Dutt stood apart. Now this performance made me wait for Munnabhai Chale Amerika! Became a huge fan of him now!

Excellent Cinematography
I just have two words to sum up the cinematography in this movie: Simply Superb! The lightings (the palaces look stunning in nights), the colors (such colors!), costumes were good to watch.

The locales and the area where the movie was shot was stunning. The locales in Rajasthan, the palaces, all are good to see and an treat to watch. The photogrpahy and the cinematography is par excellence. The scene where Amitabh shows off his skills is perfectly shot. I must say that it’s one of the best cinematography that I have seen in a Bollywood.

‘One time watch’ or is it?
I don’t know why I didn’t like this movie as much. I must admit thats it’s one of the ‘finest’ and ‘class’ movie that I have seen from Bollywood. But still we can watch movie for the class only. There must be some substance in it.Anyway it’s not that bad also…definitely not bad than branding it less than a ‘one time watch’.

Having said that, I might watch it for one more time. Maybe this movie requires multiple viewing. I might catch it in DVD and see if I liked it.

Just go and see the movie with an open mind in the cinemas (Cinematography can be enjoyed in Cinemas only), you might just like it.
