February 22nd, 2008 — My Days in Dubai
Searching for a photo for the comic strip, I saw a folder named “Dubai” in my WD Passport. Casually browsing through brought me nostalgia of my days in Dubai and an idea for a blog post.
I’m not sure if it’s my passion for cars or my photographic passion (or both?), I like taking photos sitting inside the car.

October 4th, 2007 — My Days in Dubai

Goodbye Dubai.
By the time this post appears in here, I would be sitting in the flight ready to take off…
Today after a year in Dubai, I’ve leaving to go back to India. I’ll be flying from Sharjah (10 Kms from Dubai) to Thiruvananthapuram (father is transfered to some place near there). Would staying there for some 10 days before leaving to Chennai on 13th.
I’m going to write CAT (MBA entrance exam) & other related exams and hopefully get in a premier institute. Previously I was so close in getting admitted in IIM K after being waitlisted, but this time I should not miss the target.
As I won’t have net connection for sometime till 14th of this month, I should be taking a blogging break.
I was happy for most of times thinking I’ll be in India but as time nears from the date you’re leaving, you’ll start to miss the things that happened to you here. I missed India when I was here, and now I’m already missing Dubai!

Today while reading Doggdot.us, I stumbled across this site Animoto which helps us create professional videos.
Take a look at what I created:

My Days in Dubai - Ashwin’s Arabian Adventures
We need to upload some photos, music and they make a cool looking 30 second animated slideshow within 2-3 minutes for free (unlimited costs $30 a year). You can cut out some photos, change the music or remix the video (change the video you just created) as well. No two video is the same.
Try out Animoto and let us know what you think. Showcase your video if you’ve created one.
Also how’s the video that I posted here?

A quick post for our readers in the UAE.

As the part of two week annual Disney Movie Magic Festival, from August 2nd till August 15th, each day there’ll be screenings of Disney movies. They include Animated (Pixar movies), Cartoon (The Lion King) and full length (The Chronicles of Narnia) movies.
Grand Cinemas across UAE in Dubai (Ibn Battuta Mall, Mercato Mall & Al Ghurair City), Sharjah (Sahara Centre), Abu Dhabi (Abu Dhabi Mall) and Al Ain (Grand Rotana) will be screening select Disney movies at Dh12 per viewing (normally Dhs 30), including free pop corn and goodies. For more info on the timing and schedule:- Gulf News: Movie Magic.
Plus Mercato and Disney are planning a host of activities for children as part of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) that include; Disney’s Parlor, Pirates of Caribbean Zone, Cars Tour, Picture Corner, Disney Story Telling, Sing along, and more. The activities will start from 4 pm to 10 pm and are all free of charge.
Perfect opportunity to check out great movies in silver screen. I’m planning to see Finding Nemo, Monsters, Inc., Cars and The Chronicles of Narnia.

China along with some Gulf Countries (including UAE) block sites which they feel might be inappropriate. Some offices and educational Institutes even block sites.
Here’s a new way to bypass the ban. This trick WILL work for sure.

I’ve posted about Accessing Blocked Sites in UAE before. But this time, Amit posted a trick which is really cool.
Opera mini is the new mobile browser for your mobile phones. Now they offer a new beta version, wherein we can try out how good the browser. This also is the place where we’ll play smart and open blocked sites.
