Searching for a photo for the comic strip, I saw a folder named “Dubai” in my WD Passport. Casually browsing through brought me nostalgia of my days in Dubai and an idea for a blog post.
I’m not sure if it’s my passion for cars or my photographic passion (or both?), I like taking photos sitting inside the car.

Car’s Back
Here’s some assorted photos of car taken from behind.

Honda Civic and Toyota Landcruiser

It’s no fun seeing an idle Landcruiser

You must be tired of gazing backs, catch the front of Ford Explorer
More than Cars
Once in a while it’s fun to watch expensive cars being towed.

Dubai Police’s GMC Recovery Vehicle

Jostling for Space… but be careful.

A Chariot outside Dubai World Trade Center

An Emirates Aircraft taking off…

Not only Bicycles, Chariots, Cars, Aircrafts… Discussing a possible space journey with Virgin Galactic?

I’m not done yet. Roads can be used for Prayers too.
While You’re Driving
You might be driving a Hummer but it’s no fun driving without observing the roads.

Traffic is unbearably high, listening to FM is one of the major activities.

Speeding carefully… radar cameras are in tunnels too.

Time to say goodbye. Sunset over Al Mamzar Beach.

Well, dubai people are very rich and gas is pretty cheap so they can afford such luxuries.
As seen from the number plates, dubai people aren’t crazy about special nos. as far as Indians are.I Still remember some chap from Punjab bought a special no/ for about 15 lac rupees :o(I forgot whether it was car no. or mobile no.)
Cool pictures ashwin. I wish you could have got a picture of Dubai 1
@ravi, you are so wrong. Arabs here are crazy for number plates. The costlies number plates being sold in UAE. Recently the number plate 1, I think abudhabi was sold for 25 million AED. Also, recent number plate auction raised around 10 million AED where one number plate i think E65, was sold for 3.5 million AED .
Dubai is crazy about numbers …
BTW , ashwin, I wish if you can use any other image hosting site other than flickr. You know that in UAE not everyone uses a firefox with extension , or a hotspot shield
no chicks around cars

You are right in a way. Here you can’t “buy” a number plate like here in India. But like Kanak says there was an auction by the Abu Dhabi govt and we say a craze to snap up fancy number plates.

What is Dubai 1?
Ahhh…. I completely forgot the Flickr ban, otherwise wouldn’t have hosted there.

I’ve been to Jumeirah many times and it’s there where many Sheikhs live (but Mirdiff is catching up). I’ve seen 2 and 3 digit cars of Landcruiser, Land Rover, Patrol, Armada, etc.. Khalifa is having Abu Dhabi 1 (Landcruiser).
