My Weird Dataone Issues Solved on Mac OS X

I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with BSNL Dataone (my ISP).

Right from the day I started using Dataone, I was irritated and frustrated with the two issues listed below.

You’ll be amazed to hear the issues I had and you wouldn’t have heard of it before.

Now that I’m a Mac user, let’s see if BSNL annoys OS X Tiger as it did Windows XP.

1. Run some Multimedia file before you connect

This was very frustrating. Why did it want an Audio/Video file running before it could connect to Internet? It was an old PC, I can’t afford to run 2-3 applications at the same time. So Foobar used to run all the time when I was connected to the network.

2. Don’t connect me for more than 24 Hours

Why shouldn’t I? My Dataone connection automatically disconnects after it’s online continuously for 24 hours. A major annoyance if you’re downloading a big file (P2P or otherwise) and then suddenly it disconnects. What the fuck?

3. No configuration Headaches

Configurating Dataone on Windows is not a problem, but for any first time users or your parents/non geek person, they need support to configure Dataone.

In a Mac, I plug the wire, it asks for my UserID and Password and there we go! See the Network Preferences Pane. So simple and all the clutter removed:

God only knows what issues haunted my PC. No amount of reinstalling XP or technical support (by various means from BSNL staff, Call Center or forums support) helped me. But in my Mac, these are no issues.

So there we go. Connected to BSNL Dataone. Browsing on a Mac with beautiful rendering of websites.

P.P.S: A just-for-fun post! There was nothing wrong with BSNL Dataone connection, the fault lies with my PC.
