September 29th, 2007 — Saturday Night Links Fever

It has been some time since we’ve had the regular Saturday Night Links dished out.
Welcome to another edition of fortnightly weekend party at The Newspaper Blog where drinks links will be served.
Let’s start off with some thing motivational…
But They Did Not Give Up
“ Michael Jordan was cut from high school basketball team. Jordan once observed, “I’ve failed over and over again in my life. That is why I succeed.”
NEVER give up, no matter what.
On living and dying
“A couple of months ago, when I decided to quit my job to write my book, friends and family asked me if I wasn’t scared about my future. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. I was shit-scared. Scared that I would die without even having started on my first book.”
A gem of a post. Don’t die with the music with you. Don’t wait to do what you’ve always wanted to do.
About death and nothingness thereafter…
“I hope that the dream hasn’t ended and “Milind in the dream” does manage to score with Priyanka Chopra… and they live happily ever after…”
Milind, dream on.
If you thought the above post was ‘heavy’ then this might lighten up, exploring the same theme.
What Motivates People: Beckwith 40
“People don’t care how good you are. They care how good you can make them.”
What motivates people to buy a product/service over another?
Writers’ Rooms
“I got the typewriter in 1958 from a Chinaman. You can’t get them mended anymore so I have to be very careful with it.”
An interesting article about the rooms, writers live & do work. Look for inspiration to design your room.
Photo essay: The Women of Delhi
No makeups, semi porn actors, revealing custumes, models yet charming ladies you would see. Scintillating post!

Selected Wallpapers For Your Desktop
This is where you come to find amazing wallpaper for your PC.
I just loved doing this forthnight’s link attack. Let me if you liked it as well.

Madhur recently asked me to show ‘What’s on me Desktop‘.
I thought it would to a great idea to show my readers about my Desktop. Here’s the screenshot (click to enlarge):

Details
I like to have a clean and uncluttered desktop. I’ve My Computer & Recycle Bin icon, Shortcut to my work related folder and a folder called Tempo. Tempo has all the temporary things that I might download, torrent files and other miscellaneous junk - this keeps the desktop clear. The other details:
Wallpaper: Some hot Chick (dying to see the face!). Get it: Hot Stuff
Visual Style (The different “theme” & look) : Klarheit. More on Visual Styles and how to use them, check 10 Beautiful Visual Styles for Windows XP
How’s it?
It would be cool if you also can share your desktop image here/in your blog so that everyone can see what’s cooking on your desktop. Looking forward to see your entries.

Imagine how it would be if your favourite sites without ads, had the colour styles you love, had features you enjoy and browsers pimped out…
A neat Firefox add-ons by the name of Stylish and Greasemonkey would be God send for the juntas who love to get the most of their browsing experience.
Browsing the web without Firefox (with Stylish + Greasemonkey) is like driving a speedway on a bicycle.
Stylish and Greasemonkey does CSS & JavaScript changes respectively to the website to change the way the web site looks, remove ads, add more features, fix ugly sites or just have fun.

September 27th, 2007 — Live Streaming
After the amazing run at the ICC Cricket World Twenty20 championship, it would be interesting to see how they perform in home. Only that this time it’s going to be the World Champions Australia.
As always at The Newspaper Blog, we get to see the cricket matches online. Last time, the response from the readers were so good and we hope to see the matches live.
Open links in Internet Explorer (IE). Have SopCast and TVU Player installed. For more resources on how to use SopCast and watching Online TV, Streaming Content check: Little Known Ways to Watch TV Online for Free.

September 18th, 2007 — Blogging
Many times I get mails from readers/visitors of this blog as how to blog, make money, give tips for their blog and related topics.
It’s irritating to read such things when the blog has only 2 posts or 1 week old.
In this two-part series I’ll cover some tips for new bloggers/ wannabe bloggers to build a successful blog.
Wish I could give you the secret of successful blogs. But I can’t, even if I want to.

Looking to improve your AdSense earnings?
Start to use AuctionAds along with AdSense. Hit 2 mangoes with a single stone. You’re going to improve your AdSense CTR (thereby earnings) and if you optimize your AuctionAds, then that’ll also earn you additional income.
Using images along the AdSense attracts eyeballs and improve the ad Clicks (CTR - Click Through Rate; number of ad clicked per 100 ads). Previously I was using images to be displayed along the AdSense Ads, but now that’ll be violating their TOS.
TNB gets at least 150k Pageviews every month. Even 1% increase in the CTR will reflect in increase in earnings. Assuming with just 100k AdSense Page impressions (as we might not have AdSense in all pages) and 1% increase in the CTR and $3.5 Page eCPM, you’re almost earning additional $30 every month.
