August 29th, 2007 — I, Me, Myself
My first guest post is up on my friend Deep’s Blog So, are you doing what YOU wanted to? or….
I write about how to choose a profession so that we enjoy and address the dilemma that our young students face after schooling.
Some excerpts:
I passed with First Class (missed distinction by 2 marks-74.48%) and was ranked 9th in my class. I was jobless (happily ‘unemployed’- earning hundreds of dollars) for one year, post graduation. I learnt a lot in life than in a decade of my education. Two years since my graduation now, I know nothing in Engineering (’forgot’ what I learnt). I’ve a job (Product Engineer - Mapping & GIS) which is no where related to my degree and requires no knowledge of engineering.
Enjoy the 3-4 years of your graduation. Do you really like solving Math problems, drawing [crap], learning about dudes & events that you don’t care, study mug like a parrot, read Literature like it’s nobody’s business? Well, that time won’t come back.
For those who wanted to know more about me, the article has my short story and what I’m doing now. The first step for an About page for this blog.
Read it. Comment there or let me know what you think.

India Inc - 50 to 60 - Great moments
“Would otherwise the scooter king Bajaj launched a 180 CC Pulsar in 2001?”
Defining moments of the India Inc. in the past decade. As India celebrated it’s 60th Independence Day, I’ve never felt better. You guys should be out of India for 50 days to realize what it means to be an Indian.

“I didn’t think I’d be able to swim as fast as what I have this meet.” - Ian Thorpe, when he achieved 4 world records in 4 days.
How much times have you heard directors say they didn’t expect the movie to a blockbuster, actors say they thought their acting was terrible, bloggers say their writing is crap, etc. even thought the movie was a mega hit, the acting was top notch and we read the blog for their writing.
Do you know that The Shawshank Redemption was not a big hit in the cinemas but it became one of the highest grossing video rentals of all time?
Similarly, you might see this blog in a different way than I do. I might write on various topics but you will remember this blog with a subject that connects you which later becomes the real theme of my work.
Normally I never take part in Blog meme as I feel they almost never provide any real value to our readers and I don’t want to do something just because others are doing it. Chris came up with a wonderful meme What is Your Blog About Really?, which is a great idea to improve this blog.
What do you think?
So tell me by commenting what you think this blog is about?
Thank you!
August 17th, 2007 — My Days in Dubai, Technology,Softwares & Computers

Today while reading Doggdot.us, I stumbled across this site Animoto which helps us create professional videos.
Take a look at what I created:

My Days in Dubai - Ashwin’s Arabian Adventures
We need to upload some photos, music and they make a cool looking 30 second animated slideshow within 2-3 minutes for free (unlimited costs $30 a year). You can cut out some photos, change the music or remix the video (change the video you just created) as well. No two video is the same.
Try out Animoto and let us know what you think. Showcase your video if you’ve created one.
Also how’s the video that I posted here?

The guy who had a Blog

Who’s blog is it anyway?
It’s a compliment. Would the guy claimed this blog, if he didn’t like it?

16 rules I try to live by

None can teach you your life lessons but yourself. Read them for advice, pointers and inspiration.
Bank account of life - A simple story about happiness
“I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do.”
You reap what you sow. Fill your life with happiness so that you’re rich in the bank account of happy memories. In your sunset days, you’ll be rewarded with interest. A wonderful story.

Harry Potter finally comes to an end. There’s one quote that I found interesting. The thoughts that raced in Harry’s mind when he thought he’ll be no more.
Every second he breathed, the smell of the grass, the cool air on his face, was so precious: to think that people had years and years to waste, so much time it dragged, and he was clinging to each second.
Live hard - you only have one chance.
August 9th, 2007 — P2P, Technology,Softwares & Computers
Do you remember when you downloaded these x264/HD torrent file baited by the wonderful cinematic experience?

After sweating your Internet line, you try (in vain) opening the files.
HD movies are basically high definition, high resolution format which looks gorgeous. You can detect wheat and chaff from the file size. I’ve seen some 1080p torrents which are more than 35 GB in size. Most the 720p x264 will come ~4.4 GB.
This goodness after extraction will be in .mkv (or .mp4) format. How do you play this .mkv file? VLC player will play it but sometimes you won’t get sound and only video. Plus the clarity is also not good.
So, here’s a guide that will help you live hard (not just survive) in the world of P2P and HD.
