The latest casuality of etisalat (ISP in UAE) is Orkut. Finally it’s blocked. How can you access Orkut in UAE or anywhere it’s blocked?
Sometime back, I posted an article How to Access Blocked Sites in UAE where one of our reader Ankur suggested to use VPN connection to access blocked sites.
I tried one of the methods where we establish a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to bypass ant ban and access blocked sites without any issues. The good part is it’s free, you’ll access the sites in the normally in our browsers.
Hotspot Shield to the rescue
Hotspot Shield creates a virtual private network (VPN) between your computer and your Internet connection. Now that we have established a impenetrable tunnel, you are ready to trick your ISP, company or Institute who have banned certain sites. 
Go to HotShield Site, and download the software. Get it here (direct link).
How to setup VPN connection
You can establish a VPN within seconds and it’s easy.
1. You start the program. The launch opens in Internet Explorer. You click “Run HotSpot Shield”.
2. Just watch the magic. You are assigned an IP and you’ve established a VPN!
All this steps take less than 30 seconds.
You’re ready to open any blocked sites. ‘To hell with the ban. Let them ban any sites. I don’t care!‘

I don’t know how to do that or maybe I don’t think it’s possible to do that. All we can try is that we can try to change the password and hack the router if they still haven’t changed the default password (I know most ppl won’t do that).

To make sure Hotspot application is working fine i tested it today and its fine. Certain things i want to highlight. I use to use Etisalat provided Free Norton antivirus and Firewall. I noticed some applications not working fine and after lot of research i decided to get rid of them. I moved to free antivirus and firewall. Would suggest you all to stay away from etisalat provided applications. They look more like spywares. Check you firewall and antivirus settings if things are not working.

I’ve tried for a day or two to get the Win32-TAP devices to
install under XP (Pro, SP1). I tried the install for colinux (I was trying
this out) first, and then tried several versions from the openvpn project,
all with the same problem. At the end of the install I get a message
saying “An error occured during the installation of the device. The system cannot
find the file specified”. I’ve tried safe-mode, reboots etc. The
tapdrvr.sys is in the right place, and the service is in the registry.
Help!!! Another box (identical h/w) has it installed no problem, but the

Thanks for sharing the info. I installed hotshield and its wonderful- it worked great. But just for one day, the second day I tried to connect, the status shows- “Disconnected(bandwidth exceeded)”. I have no idea what that means. Any suggestions to make it work? I have tried reinstalling it and theres no use
Ankur- I agree with your suggestion to stay away from etisalat provided anit virus. Its more of a spyware and it actually behaves as a virus if the delay in renewing the subscription. One might have to turn off the firewall when connecting to VPN

Hm.. I think you must have used it extensively. I’ve never faced anyone get around with this problem. Maybe you should try to use with some other browser like Firefox and see if that helps.

Whether I use mozilla or IE for browsing, when I try to connect it goes to IE. The status there changes from connecting to “Disconnected(bandwidth exceeded)”…….

I know it opens in IE only even though you might browse in Fx later on after getting connected. I don’t know what might be the issue with your PC.

I’m not sure, if you need some scripts, then it would mention that you don’t some things which is required to display the problem without errors.
The BW exceeded thing is due to some other unknown cause.

I am using this hotspot shield for a month and it works fine and runs smoothly, but the thing is there are 3 torrents sites I couldnt surf anymore, demonoid.com, isohunt.com, mininova.org. I been surfing those often then suddenly coudnt able to enter the site. But when I disconnect my hotspot shield I could actually enter the mininova site since its not yet block by the etisalat.. can anyone gimme some idea how to solve these? tnx

I’m not sure why you want to access isohunt/demonoid in the first place? Do you know that you get access to these sites from torrentz (opening thro this trick). That site actually indexes the torrents from the other tracker and list it there. Once you find the file you need, then click on the torrent tracker that opens. You’re now ready to go!

tnx ashwin, but I just wanna go to directly to demonoid coz I could see screenshots as well as comments from those who download it since it is the most visited torrent site, meaning I could be sure which torrent should I download to avoid wasting time, not to mention that in torrentz I got hard time to find demonoid in some torrent files, they might not allow coz I cannot enter through proxy as well. Plus the fact that there is no more registration in demonoid due to overload. I just wanna know how could I enter those sites. It just say done in the status bar but there is nothing to see. thnx again

If screenshots is your issue, then you can subscribe to rlslog.net (via RSS as it’s blocked or use this trick to access). They post the screenshots/sample/torrent file fo the new scene releases. By that way you can get to know the quality of the releases.
You actually don’t need to download torrents via Demonoid. The same copy might be available with the other tracker (under the same or different name). Popularity of torrent tracker should not determine from where you leech the stuffs.
One quick note about Demonoid. Not that I don’t like it, I feel it’s a great site but it’s not a private torrent tracker (IMO). Demonoid is same as the other public tracker as far as the speed issues is concerned.
The done thing happens with me as well, it’s not loading. I’m not sure why is that.

I guess rlslog.net is ok and doin good, I have read a lot of comments and those screenshots are nice, however, I am having a hard time to find some torrent links if I wanna download some particular movies in that same site, some says link removed, some are just empty. Can you gimme some of your favorite torrent sites? Actually I have found solution how to enter demonoid by having a proxy but though I could now enter the site it doesnt allow me to download the file mentioning about proxy refused or something.
rlslog is basically for scene release news only. You see some releases and then go leech them if you wish. The torrents are linked as a bonus only.
You can leech the torrents from any torrent tracker. I’ve written about my fav. trackers here:

If you got the file from Demonoid (or any other), then you don’t need proxy anymore. Disconnect and then open them in your torrent client. These dudes didn’t block p2p traffic.

The “Auth-Failed” message occurs when the server denies a connection request. This most often occurs because the user has exceeded bandwidth limits.
Any user that has used more than 10 GB will not be able to log in until their prior month of bandwidth usage drops below 10 GB.

I got this answer from the techinical support of HotSpot shield,
maybe some have over used it or maybe connecting and diconnecting many times aday has accured this prob too..
it might take us to the exceeded limit..
I also tried contacting the team, but they didn’t respond to my queries.

i think it depends on the how many websites u open at the time “or day” using hotspot and how many links and downloads “i guess”.. and maybe it should not be disconnected alot .. .. im confused a bit too Hudam26..

It has been almost a month that I have been getting this message. I am sure the reasoning is correct cause I had left Hotspot connected by mistake once while I was downloading a movie from one of the torrent sites.
Man I screwed up.
I hope the time limit concept works and I also hope the time limit is not more than a month.

so whenever u come accross an unblocked proxy site…..make it a habit to save the page, so that even when etisalat blocks these site, u can browse these site

Yeah, PirateBay doesn’t work with this trick. And mininova.org is not blocked.

Try to use ghostSurf Platinum it’ll work for sure 100% u will be anonymous.
When you install any program, it usually puts values in your registry. For instance, there are many software packages that work on a trial basis, then expire after a certain amount of time. Even if you uninstall them, then reinstall them they will not work. Why? Because when you uninstall them, there are still things left on your computer (usually in the registry) that holds your expiration data.
The trick to reuse something like this is to find those hidden registry entries and remove them. In the case of hotspot shield, if we can find and remove those registry entries, it would be as if we were installing it on our systems for the first time. When we reach the maximum allowed limit, we simply clean off the registry values, and we’re good to go.
It is also possible that they check the original IP, or computer name during the authorization process. So this is one thing that must be also taken into consideration. I highly doubt they use the originating IP, as some people have stated that their desktop computers work fine, while their laptops are over the limit.

hi bonehead and to all those who suggested formatting the pc so that hotspot can bypass the bandwidth limit. I am now facing this bandwidth problem. I know for sure that I disconnected hotspot after every internet session. I know for sure that I did not download 10 GB. I have deepfreeze installed on my pc for a long time. I installed it BEFORE installing hotspot. So, everytime I restarted my pc, it went back to the original settings, that is, settings BEFORE installing hotspot. So, there are no registry entries to indicate that I ever installed hotspot on my pc in the first place. Whenever I restart my pc I get a brand new installation.
So this bandwidth problem is not related to the pc, but related to some shit anchorfree can not resolve. Or maybe anchorfree is trying to screw us for no reason whatsoever.

I work in UAE and several of us use Surfbouncer (www.surfbouncer.com) to bypass the blocking and make sure they can’t read our data. Works well with Skype.

Open Internet Explorer> Tools> Internet Options> Connections> LAN Settings> here you can see “Use a proxy server for your LAN….” If it is already enabled then disable it and click ok then ok! hope it works… If it does’nt work let us know….
Hey i was using hotshield for skype pro and it was working fine for a while, but lately it has been using up my account funds to make calls instead of skype pro.
