3 Trends that Shaped up the Blogosphere this Year

Exactly we’re in half way through this year, 2007.

So what’s the buzz in the blogging world? What’s hip and happening?

It’s no secret that Blogs, readerships, online advertising has grown. Here’s the trend, the things in vogue that shaped up the Blogosphere this year…

wired

Link Exchanges are Passé. Long live Relationship

RIP - Blog roll. Well almost. More & more blog don’t have blog roll and this link exchanges also is a thing of the past.

Bloggers are now investing time and effort in building relationship - be it with other blogger or their readers.

Blogs must be the only place, where guests are always welcome!

This year was the emergence of guest bloggers and blogs on ‘guest mode’. ProBlogger, JohnChow.com and CopyBlogger were some blogs that was on ‘guest mode’. Not to forget that Chitika Blog was on written by guest bloggers for 30 days they released a ebook.

Guest Blogging is good for the blogs as the readers get to read some fresh content and the blogger can keep the tempo of the blog when (s)he is unable to blog. Guest posting on popular blogs is good for the bloggers as well which helps them to get new readers and exposure for their blogs.

Steve Pavlina earns in excess of $40,000 a month Blogging!

That’s a lot of money which requires part time effort done full time! Icing in the cake is that you do what you like and passionate about. All the World’s freedom at your disposal.

$40k is a lot of money for something that requires part time effort done full time!

When Steve can do that, why can’t others? John Chow reports that out the 135 AdSense refferals in 45 days, only 3 had made $5 and 99% of the blogs don’t make more than $100 a month. Steve who runs a Personality Development site and Darren who runs a blog helping blogger make money online, tell that most of the them can’t make money online full time.

When one person asked me ‘how to make money online’, I remarked blogging is actually a bad idea to make money online.

It involves a lot of effort for a long period of time and most of the times, the money will come your way a bit longer than you expect. You should be blogging because you’re passionate, like and enjoy what’re doing. Because thats when you can work without any monetary benefits.

Having patience (a lot of it), being persistent and gradually building a great blog over time will reward you handsomely. When Steve makes over $40k, John Chow over $12k, Everton over $9k, etc.. it should inspire you to keep going and never give up.

So it’s possible to earn full time blogging. But it’s difficult than you think.

P.S:
I wrote this article for DailyBlogTips Blog Project.

I think you are right that you are only going to run a successful blog if you are genuinely interested in blogging i.e. it shouldn’t just be about the money. For instance I was blogging for 6 months ‘just for fun’, before I even considered trying to make some money from my blog.

Yes, when people see others make money, they also try to jump in. Yes, it’s true that some blog make money faster than others, but that shouldn’t discourage you. Having faith your blog is important.

Waiting for your article. :)

Yes, patience is the key, i have been blogging for over 4 months now, but i dont look for earning money. Yes, we are placing ads, but we are still not pro blogger. We still need to find a career ahead of us, this blogging thing can be a side thing that can satisfy you as well as , give you some extra income. Reaching the levels of pro bloggers like amit, its really tuff, and will take loads of time, hardwork and Patience…

#13 ReviewSaurus on 07.05.07 at 5:25 pm

Well, I think monetization is one part which can keep you motivated. Patience and well thought blogging can get you in that list of top earners.

Pro blogging is not difficult, its just that you’ve get to dedicate your time and put lots of effort and not to lose that spree at any point of time!

Some say you can pro blog as well as have a full time job. But in my opinion, it’s good to quit job if you like blogging and your blog is the next level…

ReviewSaurus -
Yes, thats what I said in the beginning of this article. Initially it might be difficult, but once you gain momentum, then nothing should come in your way. :D

#15 ReviewSaurus on 07.05.07 at 10:13 pm

I think you’ve already gained the momentum :)

#17 Madhur Kapoor on 07.06.07 at 1:09 am

#18 Ashwin on 07.06.07 at 11:39 am

#19 Ken Xu on 07.07.07 at 3:36 pm

Nice Post! :)
I’m throwing a challenge for myself to quit my primary job by doing internet business. Blogging is one of the tool for me to earn money, but it seems blogging won’t reward me much at the beginning.

Like what you have said, Need a lot of time and persistence on what we are doing at.

#20 Ashwin on 07.07.07 at 4:42 pm

Thanks Ken. One way to gauge your interest is by checking if you really like what you do even if you don’t gain any monetary benefits.

All the best for your business.

Great post. It’s true that if you want to make any kind of money with your blog, you have to love blogging first. If you’re passionate about what you do, great things will follow as a result.

#22 Arpit Jacob on 07.07.07 at 8:30 pm

I totally agree over the first point .. building relationships are more important.

For building a successful blog and monetizing it, one needs patience, perseverance and passion. If one lacks any of these its going to be a difficult road ahead.

#25 Ashwin on 07.08.07 at 5:52 pm

Ahh….great discussion going on!

Brown Baron -
Thanks. And along with loving blogging, you need to have interest in the topic that you are blogging about.

Arpit -
Yeah… me being a introvert trying to be introvert-extrovert, blogging is teaching me a lot of things.

Vijay -
Yes, some people easily pass off telling that they make 4 figures every month. It’s really very difficult and is a challenge.

If the blogsphere has been (re)shaped, does that mean it is no longer a sphere? Just Kidding :-)

I’ve only been blogging for a total of 4 months, so I’m still learning. So, I was wondering if you could please expend on why blogrolls are passe? Thanks.

#36 Ashwin on 07.11.07 at 7:58 am

^^
First when I started blogging, people had blogrolls I had a static WP page with the list of the blogs I would have put in the blogroll section. Then when I changed my theme, many are having a list like page and I’m not having blogroll.

Not that I don’t want to link, but these days we do link to other sites a lot and sometimes majority of the readers of two alike blogs are the same.

Other reasons include, saving real estate space, de cluttering, etc..

#37 Nihar on 07.11.07 at 10:56 am

Yes, Blogging is learning curve all the way. There’s new things to learn, new skills to acquire, new people to meet…
