July 28th, 2007 — P2P
Do you know that you can use P2P for educational purpose also? There are thousands of resources for Medical, Engineering, Information Technology students. These are things which you otherwise can’t afford or get in the bookstore.
Sometime back I featured Top 10 Private Torrent Trackers, which was well received. So I thought we’ll explore the possibilities in other spheres of interest.
Our Reader, Lisa Frengetti brought this topic in the Private Torrent Tracker article. She was helpful and in fact wrote the contents (with screenshots) which you are going to read. Thanks a lot for the help, Lisa.
One common characteristics of these educational sites are, we have less leechers and hit&runners. Even if the seeders are less for any torrent, the speed is awesome.
I’ve attached a screenshot of the categories and topics of these torrent trackers for your interest.

July 20th, 2007 — My Movie recommendations and reviews

When Harry was in detention with Umbridge some guy in theater yelled, “AVADA KEDAVRA!” - A comment at IMDb
I enjoyed the movie very much. One thing I observed is in any Harry Potter movie I saw (Either in Chennai or Dubai) the audience were interactive. The one liners, cheeky comments and real time views takes movie watching to another level. It was fun and good time in the theater.

July 18th, 2007 — P2P, Potpourri

This is what Muggles do when they’re bewitched by spells.
And yes, this period is bumper time for Harry Potter fans. The finale of the book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows and the fifth installment of the movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix hits you within a fortnight.
Even though the OOTP (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) has released last week, in the UAE it’s releasing this Thursday only. The book releases on Saturday. I’m waiting (just managing) but there’s a lot of distractions in various forms which threaten to spoil my Harry Potter things this week.

July 13th, 2007 — P2P
The latest stable version of our favorite P2P client, µTorrent is finally available for our downloading bliss.
After 5 months of development, we finally have Version 1.7 stable.
The major changes include:
- Vista Support
- Removal of the 65,536 piece limit for torrents (faster speeds)
- Option to auto update to beta versions
- Local Peer Discovery (if more than one PC from your LAN is connected, then there’s no effect on speed)
- New treeview-based add torrent dialog (makes it easier for selective downloads)
- Doesn’t force an immediate recheck when download path changes, checks on next start
- And hundreds of bug fixes
Still the feature to Ban peers is not included.
I’m currently using the 1.7 version and all these days I was using the Version 1.6.1. One issue that I’m facing in my Laptop is when I open µTorrent, the icon disappears. Otherwise it’s good release and there’s no issue with the speeds.
