Changing themes for your WordPress blog is a cumbersome task, right?
Wrong.
Although even scouting for a right theme for your blog from the thousands of themes is not easy, updating your theme with another one will make you think of sea of work that need to be done, checking and updating the files all over again.
Do you know I changed the theme for this blog for 4 times, though graphically it was only two?
Nirmal over Life Rocks wrote a article referring to the checklist that you’ll need to run through once you change your WordPress theme. I saw a many comments regarding how the bloggers forgot to add/edit some thing or the other in their new theme. Having changed a new theme myself, I wanted to share a simple but effective tip how to get things done the easy way.
The killer tip aka The Lazy Blogger’s way to update themes
I always keep last old theme so that I can refer the files and do changes in the new theme files.

WordPress themes are coded in PHP, so the theme code is the same but for the extra things that some theme might have over the other. So example, check the files present in the present theme and the old theme:
Sidebar, Footer, 404 page and single post theme files might not require much work from your side, as the files will be similar. And these are the areas which takes time if you want to add the things like ads, add stats code like 103 bees, Google Analytics, etc.
Having the old theme files and using it to our advantage is a practice that I adopt which saves me time and I don’t miss to add/edit somethings.
Bonus tip:
Now you use your old theme files by adding more functionality to your new theme by adding features from old theme.

Cool tip. I never tried this. I usually back up all the code and then add it to the new theme.
Thanks for my mention.
I have a write up on the Wordpress Plugin “Preview Theme” as well: http://www.listikal.com/redesi.....is-plugin/

Both are same. Either backing up or having the old theme files.

I think I’ve come across this before, but never managed to use it. Next time around, I’ll try this out. Thanks for the mention.
Didn’t mean for my link to create chaos on your comments. I’ll be sure to use TinyURL next time.
^^
No issues man. I think I need a plugin to make the URL snip and display.
Ashwin,
Try using this plugin,

It will not allow links to go beyond the comments area, it will wrap it. I’m also using it.
^^
Ok. Thanks for making my job easier. I’ll upload that plugin and install it today itself.
