Sivaji: The Boss - Movie Review
Sivaji rocks. Sivaji is cool. Don’t miss it.
That’s the review of the movie if you want me to cut short the review that’s going to follow.
I liked the movie and it was the best I saw this summer. Spiderman was trapped by his own web, Pirates sunk, Oceans 13 were caught red handed. I agree with Sudhish (a great movie review blog) when he says Superstar films shouldn’t be reviewed. They’re the Superhero movies of India!
Sivaji Fever grips Dubai
Rajni Mania hits UAE, be it Dubai, Sharjah or Abu Dhabi. The story is same. There has never been this kind of rush for a movie (be it any language) ever in Middle East. All the tickets, all over UAE is booked till Thursday and they issue tickets for a week only. We reserved tickets 4 days back when they actually started issuing tickets. Normally tickets cost for a Tamil movie is Dhs 20 ($5.5/Rs 220), but this time it was Dhs 30.
For once I was thinking whether this is Dubai or Chennai.
Even though I was working today, 13 of us went to catch the movie at Hyatt Regency & Galleria, Deira Corniche. There was a mild traffic jam over there and Dubai Police inquired why is this so! The show started with the usual whistling and shouts. Whistle for each and every time Rajni does something. In the end I was happy to catch a Desi regional movie outside India.
Songs - Grandeur!
Honestly I’ve never seen songs shot to this grand extend ever. Though I didn’t like the songs previously, I really loved every second of songs in the movie, even though it acted as a speed breaker.
Grandeur is an understatement. If there’s any other word expressing more than that, let me know.
Nayantara (she never was this hot before!) does the opening introduction song ‘Ballelaka‘ as Thalaivar dances with other ‘bellied beings’ who have their tummies painted with tigers, pots and Thalaivar’s face of course. When I saw the songs, I was full of praise for the people behind the scenes for the kind of creativity they had.
Keep your Brain in silent Mode
There’s no punch dialog (but it’s indirectly mentioned in the movie), the comedy is not of good quality even though it had the crowd in splits, the movie literally sucks in the first half. I was disappointed to some extend as two of my friends didn’t like the movie and the reviews were also not nice. But the movie picked up pace and the crowd’s interest in the second half. Like I said, don’t look for logic. Enjoy the movie for the stars, comedy, songs, fights and all the style.
All in all, Sivaji is truly the boss. Shankar is one of best Indian Director. He has 100% success record and this movie will also be a box office blockbuster. I liked this film better than Shankar’s earlier movies like Anniyan and Boys.
So catch Thalaivar in big screen, experience the magic of “Superstar - Rajni” as it flashes in the title credits. Don’t really look for logic or trust others testimonial.
7.5/10

“Don’t look at the logic” — This is the keyword for Sivaji huh ?
Nice review btw.
First half is not good as you said. Comedy is the only good thing. But, everything has changed in the second half as the fight between Rajni and Suman starts. The starting scene of the second half (Tea shop talk btw Rajni and Suman) was awesome. Cant even hear the dialogs. Fans were shouting like anything.
Thoroughly enjoyed the film. I too have written a review for the film, check it out here.
Some comedy scenes were horrible…like the FAIR and LoVELY scene…Thalaiva….its not ur style of Comedy….and few other scenes which were not digestable.

Thanks.

Confetti, whistles and shouts for each and everything Rajni did.
It’s the same story every where. Be it Chennai, Dubai or Los Angeles.
Also where did I mention that I liked the first half? I in fact remarked:
prabhu -
I thought the intro was Ok, if not bad. I infact liked the comedy scenes, even though some times it was too much.
Yeah, Shreya (summa super hooooot) scene was little awkward to watch. The same thing happened in Muthalvan as well.
But prabhu, you didn’t tell if you liked the movie!
Shivaranjan -
I heard that it’s booked full for this whole month in Chennai? All the best. Hope you get tickets…
Hi Ashwin,
Me too saying the same thing…
“Don’t look at the logic”
That is the same reason why I am not interested in Rajni Kanth films full of blunters.
Ashwin-
I am currently in Mumbai so will try to get the tickets somehow here.
seems had a good friday night show..
hmmm…
Veerasundar -
Haha.. an misunderstanding. I thought otherwise.
knight17 -
Can I know some logic in Hollywood Super Hero movies?
Shivaranjan -
Ahha.. I forgot that you got a job there.
bluediamond -
No, we saw on Saturday, Noon show. Friday shows were booked.
I’m waiting for the movie to be released here in Mangalore. Its slated for 22nd.
Everybody says the film is doing well. Probably I’ll watch it very soon
Nirmal -
Can you understand Tamil? Here in the UAE, mallu’s even though they can’t speak Tamil can understand Tamil.
Shankar -
Hmm… you should see movies because you LIKE them, not because you HAVE to. I believe in this, coz you’ll truly enjoy the movie.
Btw, You from which place man?
Hmm… I’m from Tamil Nadu and I know Tamil
^^
Ok. Enjoy the show!
Inox @ baroda not managed to get print ,since it’s super hit chance are low till weeks or may be 1 month ,sigh.
P.S. I want to see Shreyaaaaaaaa
^^
Do people see Tamil movies there in Baroda?
Yes man, Shreya is THE hottest siren to torch Tamil films since Kushboo.
By the way, I think I’m going in one more show sometimes soon.
And you absent online for a quite a while, what’s up?
If you will show me some movies as dumb as baba, I will agree with you.
i saw this on 18 th… dont expect this movie to be like badshaa(rajini’s best) or mudalavan(shankar’s best)…. just go there and enjoy this movie .. rajini is awesome in this movie …. songs and set were amazing .. it really treat to your eyes …..and really rajini is the boss
knight17 -
To be frank, I liked Baba. It’s not a great movie, maybe not a very good movie as well, but sure I liked it.
If you look for many such goofs are present in Hollywood movies. I see a lot of movies, and have seen logic taking a hit. Yeah, it’s a lot less, but then you can’t compare those with our desi movies.
balaji -
I also felt that this movie was Rajni’s movie but not Shankars. The same can’t be said for other Shankar movie.
Badshaa is Rajni’s best movie, but Indian is Shankar’s best movie.
dont talk about logic in rajini movie… people dont pay 2000 bucks to see logic in his movie.. forget about all the logic and see his movie…..
^^
Where did that 2k bucks came from? That’s a lot of money for most of the people.
Ashwin,
I can understand tamil, speak tamil a bit and also can write Tamil.
Actually I was in Pondicherry for 2 year doing my M.Tech.
Last Rajini movie was released when I was in Pondicherry
2k is for preview and 1 st day show…
Nirmal -
Even though Tamil is my mother tongue, I can’t write/read Tamil effortlessly.
balaji -
If it’s Rs 2k, then it’s lot cheaper in UAE with Dhs 25 (Dubai only Dhs 30) and in USA where people have paid $21!
Ashwin-
The movie was really good. Worth watching in a theatre and Rajni was awesome especially in the end (Motta Boss).
^^
I liked the movie very much and this week we’re going again to watch for the second time.. dunno if we get tickets or not..
Now I know why you hated a great movie like Ocean’s 13. Your taste sucks thats the reason.
^^
Maybe I’ll see the movie and I might like it.
It was just my personal opinion.
