The Newspaper Blog sports a new look!

After using the Fast Track theme for over 17 months, it’s time that I changed to a new and a better theme. Now this blog sports CopyBlogger theme.

CopyBlogger theme for The Newspaper Blog

When Brian announced that his old theme would be given away as a free WP theme, I was happy and I instantaneously decided this is going to be my second theme.

I feel that the Copyblogger theme is the most professional good looking free wordpress theme around. I was planning for sport a theme when my blog had it’s first year anniversary. But to be really honest, I was not satisfied with the free wordpress themes available.

I’m planning to have a custom theme made for this blog, when I can really afford it. If I’m earning around $700 per month consistently (which should happen eventually), then I’ll make sure that we see a WP theme that would not have seen before.

Chris Pearson is my favorite designer. I loved the themes, he made for CopyBlogger, Seo Book, Text Link Ads. I feel he has designed the best looking free WP themes as well. I would be happy if I’m able to afford him as soon as possible and he also is a position to design for this blog.

Hip and Happening - The Newspaper Blog

There’s a whole lot of activities going on and off The Newspaper Blog other than the theme change.

Other than the new theme, here’s all the news from The Newspaper Blog:

  • Sidebar is updated again and has many changes. One of them is the ‘Punk, are you a movie buff‘ Clint Eastwood Button. As of now it links to the movie review page, but I’m planning to update it with a separate page full of movies and stuffs. Punk, ya like it? Let me know in the comments.
  • The best of The Newspaper Blog articles is back. It was a tough time choosing 10 best articles and in future as well as the blog gets populated.
  • A new favicon for the first time! But still not happy with it. I want something like ‘The Newspaper Blog’ or ‘T N B’. Can anyone create a favicon?
  • Amit (of Digital Inspiration fame) has compiled a list of ‘Widely Read Indian Blogs‘. The Newspaper Blog is one of the 11 blogs (at the time of posting) listed under the personal blog category.
  • Added a ‘Buy me a Coffee‘ donate button in the sidebar. Blogging is hard work and if you feel this blog helped you in any way, you might consider donating. And yeah, you can also show you love this blog by added this blog to your Technorati Favorites. :D
  • This blog has finally broken into the Alexa 100k after over 17 months of it’s existence. :)
  • I’ve installed 2-3 new plugins and deleted 1-2. One of plugin that you can see is the ‘Buy me a Coffee’. Blogging is hard work. If you had benefited from this blog, you might consider donating some beer err..coffee money.
  • Reduced the number of ads. I don’t blog for money. Hoping that the readers experience is enhanced further.

Help me making this blog better

People, what do you think? It might look that the theme is uploaded and switched. But it’s far from it. I did a lot of testing, adding/editing the theme code, making some buttons, uploading images and other major as well as minor changes. Heck, I was thinking about the way I want the blog to come out when I was traveling and before sleeping! I was a complete reboot of this blog. It took me more than 5-6 days of work for me to use this theme. There’s still some changes that I’ll have to incorporate in the coming days. I thought launching the theme and then doing the minor changes would be a good idea.

Do you have any feedback, suggestions or bugs to report? Please comment and let me know what you think about the change.

I’m in love with my blog! :) Looks cool.

Ashwin,
I feel you need to add a contact page!

#9 Madhur Kapoor on 06.01.07 at 9:31 am

I like the New Theme Ashwin . I would suggest you to change the pic ” Clint eastwood ” as it doesnt blend well with the theme . Maybe you can try out some avatar there .

Piyush -
Yeah… the comments section is cool.

There’s no difference. Only that here, you get to see coffee image instead of a beer one.

Madhur -
Hmm.. I also thought about it for a while. But the movie (Dirty Harry or any other western movies) does have those type of colors. I thought it would be cool even if it’s not blending with the theme.

Any other ppl feel the same? Then I’ll change the image..

Nirmal -
The contact me page was there, but I forgot to put in the navigation menu. It’s there where it ought to be now.

bluediamond -
Was the previous one not clean? Thanks for the apprecian

Shankar & Harsh -
Thanks a lot. But the real credit goes to Chris Pearson. ;)

After a long time reading your posts in Google Reader, I’m returning to your site. This new theme is cool, but i did like the earlier one more.

Comment part of this theme is cool though.

^^
I also liked the previous theme, otherwise I wouldn’t have run here for over 17 months. But this theme is better than that one. There was lot of things that I was able to do in this, which was not possible earlier.

This is what is called “Killer Comments”. Hmm… perhaps, comments on D & G. ;)

Your new design looks really good!, apt for your theme

But I can’t agree with you about what you have said about the quality of free themes available for wordpress. Loads of themes are released each day.

It may be true that one that suit your niche may be rare but that dosen’t mean there aren’t nice themes available.

“When Brain announced that his old theme”

Should not that be Brian ? :P

I know it’s hard work making a theme. With due respect to theme developers, I personally feel that free WP are not that cool. They might be good. For for SEO or usability. But I feel they are not professional as yet. For the last 4-5 months I was looking for a theme, I was not fully satisfied with Cutline (by Perason) as well.

Manas -
Eek! Thanks for pointing it out. Fixed it.

I liked the old one much better than the current one..

#17 Ashwin on 06.05.07 at 7:50 am

^^
Why so? Is there anything that I can do to make this a better theme?

#18 VARKEY on 06.05.07 at 10:36 pm

this one is too plain. :)

I feel it’s easy on the eyes and looks professional as well. :D

#20 Manas on 06.09.07 at 10:41 pm

Looks professional ? You can always make it look more professional. ;)

What Pearson has done is provide a framework for easy customization. Utilize it.. :)

#21 Ashwin on 06.10.07 at 9:09 am

^^
Yeah… there’s also room for improvement, but frankly speaking I really like the theme as it is now.. ;)

#22 Shwetanshu on 06.12.07 at 8:26 pm
