If you’re a fan of Private Torrent Trackers, then should be aware that you have to maintain a good ratio, otherwise you’ll be banned or have wait times.
Before starting, I would like to tell that Bit Torrent is popular only because you get anything (well, almost!) you want for free. Ratios are in place so that it makes you upload more. There’s no real Jargon here. Your ratio will eventually improve if you upload more.
I have compiled some tips which will enable you to have a good ratio at Private Torrent Trackers. I’m going to get off as it is, without much of an intro assuming you know what I talk about. If not, then you can check the articles at the Related post section at the end of this article.
1. Be an Early Bird
You should try and get into the torrent that’s newly upload and has a lot of seeders/leechers. There are in demand and you have the opportunity to upload to hearts fill. Reader’s Tip: If you aren’t an early bird, consider not to use Private Trackers. You can use Public Trackers for them and seed them at Private Trackers. [ Thanks Rahul]
2. Download here and Upload there
If you’re a member in many Private Tracker sites, then you should try to upload to the tracker which is new, popular and has more peers. I know not many sites are as popular as Torrent Leech. Maybe you should try to d/l from Torrent Leech and upload at Torrent-Damage. So you can upload as much as you have downloaded in more peers tracker and upload even more (without any download!) at other trackers.
3. Cap me not
You should not cap your upload speed at any cost. Maybe cap it at 85% (that is give 85% of your upload bandwidth) so that you’re download speed doesn’t gets affected.
4. Seed till you Bleed
Also one thing you can do is to leave your torrent in your client for weeks.. you’ll never know when people download it. You should leave the torrent in the client even though you must achieved the minimum ratio or uploaded as much you downloaded.
5. Eat only as much as you can digest
Some people have the habbit of downloading anything and everything that they see. You should download only the things that you’re interested in. Also you can do ‘Partial Seeding’. Most of the torrent client have the options of turning off the parts that you don’t want to download. So even you finish 60% of the torrent, you can seed what you have download.
6. Share what you have
Some trackers allows members (who are not in ‘Uploader’ class) also to share their files. You can make use of this to upload what you have with you to others. Now without downloading you’re just uploading more and more thereby increasing your ratio at Private Torrent Trackers.
Bonus Tip
This is obvious! Having a good internet connection helps. The faster the connection the better mentality that you’ll have to upload more.
Now that you know what to do. Seed till you see smoke in your network wire! ![]()

Try seeding at a High Definition website with a BSNL 256k (64k upload). All those guys have 10mbit+ connections and don’t even leave a chance to seed. I’m a seeder at heart, but this cannot be done by me at HD torrent sites.
So we are left to download with some modded torrent pack…
I am hundred percent sure this comment has been posted by goobimama (on the Digit forum). Why isn’t the name or something revealed? I would have loved to knew whether I am correct or not. Though I am damn sure I am correct.
Oops! Pressed the ‘Stop’ button too late, I guess. :p
I noticed the name after I had hit ‘Submit Comment’. Anyway, glad to see my guess was spot on.
Ashwin,
Tnx for the tips.
Goobimama - That’s what I mentioned in the Bonus Tip. Having a high speed connection helps. ADSL connection sucks man. Even in the UAE here we have 2mbps connection, but the upload is only 128kbps!!
Kirktrix - Now you got the tips.
According to me with BSNL dataone maintaining a good ratio is a tough job. I saw a post on your blog some months back in which you have posted a screen shot of your ratio at BWtorrents and it was amazing , How did you manage to do it ?
And i’m 200% sure that “cool n casual” dude is arya…

My BwT ratio is 3.01
Thats because I apply the tips that I posted here. In BwT, Music and TV torrents don’t have any effect in ratio. So I download them (what all I’m interested in)and seed the crap out of it.
Nice article…
I too don’t like seeding but still have a torrent ratio of 13.6(yeah that’s true) on bwtorrents!
… Uh… who ‘arya…’ man?
OK… I am not good at this acting. I wonder how you guessed that… not really! Just kidding.
I had a ratio of 136 on BiT-HDTV.
Yes, I know what that means and I am not on crack!
Cool ‘n’ Casual aka Aryayush -
136? Either you must have a good connection (which is not possible in India) or you must have downloaded small amount only.
That 3 something ratio is the result of slogging over the years! Ok, not really.. but I’ve downloaded over 125 GB.
@Cool & casual & Goobimama , I was with 64kbps connection for many months & I followed these above & managed to get more than 1+ ratio.
plus, if u are not early bird, not want to burn ratio, u can get them from other tracker(of course free/public) & use it for seed on Private.
if 1 used to get DVDs , sometime u should realize pre-time @ those trackers .Or you can try with Nordic/swe subs one against R 1 DVDs.
I hope u understand wht I meant.

Good point man! If you aren’t an early bird, consider not to use Private Trackers. You can use Public Trackers for them and seed them at Private Trackers.
I’ve added this also in the main post.
@multi/rahul
Your suggestion, though quite obviously useful on general private trackers, is not very useful for me because the private tracker I use is the only source for me to get HD movies and these trackers are exclusively about high definition movies. So it is not possible for me to upload anything new on these trackers.
Among Ashwin’s suggestions, I follow these:
1. This is the primary way for me to seed. I have already seeded about 25 GB from an 8 GB file because of being an early bird.
2. As I said, it is not possible for the trackers I use.
3. Never even thought about capping my upload rate.
4. I seed even if I am not uploading anything. These at least buys me some bonus points which I can later exchange for upload credits.
5. Yeah, I download only what I need (not that I have much choice on a 256 Kbps connection!) and have set my client to allow partial seeding.
6. This point is actually the same as #2.
Seed? What’s that?
[Ps. Show Imageshack some love and don't link or just dont hotlink ;)]
ashwin,
Need some info regarding the Download here and Upload there. I have downloaded a movie from supertorrent and then tb and tl tracker has exactly the same movie. It is possible that I can seed it on both tl and tb at the same time? and how?
Suppose you download “Cool.n.Casual.is.a.genius” from one tracker and want to seed the same file WITH THE SAME NAME on another. This is how you do it:
1. Download the file in folder ‘A’ from tracker ‘Z’.
2. Download a little of the same file from tracker ‘Y’ into folder ‘B’. Just download about a hundred kilobytes and stop it.
3. Now copy the whole file from position ‘A’ to position ‘B’ so that it is completely replaced. If the names are not the same, rename the file/folder downloaded in folder ‘A’ and make it identical to the name of the file/folder you started downloading in folder ‘B’ and then replace ‘B’ with ‘A’.
4. Now start the download again in your torrent client. Generally it will find that the size is different and re-check the downloaded files. When it finds that the download is already complete, it will start seeding. In case, it does not check itself, you can ‘Force re-check’ it.
It is very simple. All credit to goobimama for telling me how to do it.
^^
Thanks Cool ‘n’ Casual. I can’t imagine how I forgot to comment on Kirktrix question.
Maybe I’ll write a tutorial on this soon enough.

Why Use p2p?
Why seed when you can use direct downloads from free servers like rapidshare, megaupload etc.?
There so many websites & blogs out there that will bring you the hottest & latest content in direct download links.
No Sharing, No Seeding - nothing.
Just download from a dedicated server, At maximum speed for free - no matter how many Seeders\Leechers out there….
