How to be a Movie Buff in Dubai without spending a penny!

It always feels good to get treated on things you live.. and that too for free, isn’t it?

After being here in Dubai for over 5 months, I have seen 6 movies in Cinemas. It will kind of dig your pocket deep, as tickets are little expensive (Dhs 30/Rs 360) compared to rates back home in Chennai.

So how about free movie in the Cinemas? I’ve seen 2 movie in Cinema for free!

Want to know how?

Movie Mondays - Premieres!
7 Days in association with Grand Cinemas give a chance to check out a special premiere screenings free ticket. And if it’s not a ’special premiere screenings’, then you get a complimentary pass when you buy one regular ticket. Every Monday you should go to the Participating Grand Cinemas in Dubai and Abu Dhabi with the Ad in 7 days newspaper to get your ticket.

I got to see Smokin’ Aces at Mercato for free.

More Info: Movie Mondays.

Movie Under the Stars
Every Sunday at Wafi City, they screen relatively old movie at the rooftop, Rooftop Gardens. There are 2 shows, one at 8 PM and other at 10 PM. The best part is you get to enjoy the movie in an open ambiance in a bean bag. The thing is there are some 2-3 bean bags for a person that you’ll lie down and watch movie!

I got to see Crash this Sunday. One of my friend slept there… the place being cool, cozy and comfortable.

I will post a scanned screenshot of the brochure in a day or two.

Almost all the theaters in Chennai have this Rs. 10 ticket (it’s mandatory in TN) but the thing is the theater keep them in guise and they don’t want ppl to ‘use’ it.

Mayajaal for example say they don’t have such tickets, but a closer investigation revealed that they had those tickets, but issues only for the local villagers there not for others.

You are right about that.. Some theatres, Sathyam perhaps, have the 10 Rs. counters at the back of the theatre complex to ensure not many people even know about it.
But honestly, the government in TN is providing a lot of sops to the TN film industry and the theatres and still these people don’t want to give anything back.

^^
True. Honestly speaking again this theater owner earn a lot…. still they said that this money is not enough to sustain running this business. They shold perhaps learn from other countries. No wonder Piracy is evry rampant here in India.

That’s a good list - I use Mashreq Bank’s VIP card. The best one for movies I guess. - Vinay
