I got my laptop… atlast!
It’s the Dell Inspiron 6400 / Inspiron E 1505 series. It’s ‘company laptop’ but still I’m the physical owner.
Highlights of the configuration:
- Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 (2GHz/667MHz FSB/4MB Cache)
- 120 GB HDD (But I could see only 107 odd GB only)
- 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
- 128 MB Video Card (I’m not sure if it has the inbuilt Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 or this one)
-15.4″ LCD with the maximum resolution of 1280*800
- 8X DL-DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW)
- Bluetooth, and all that jazz
It costed Dhs 4025 (Rs 48,300 / $1090) . Laptops in Dubai are cheaper than in India. I’m sure you can’t find this deal in India.
One more rant… the notebook carry case sucks. I saw Victorinox Swiss Army’s bag at Jashanmal for Dhs 500 (Rs 6000) maybe at 25% discount. It’s costly plus I’ll get a carry bag with my laptop.
Waiting for my Lappy
Even though I ‘own’ this laptop, there are some restrictions like I should not install pirated softwares, should not take with me for vacations, etc.. and in the end of the day this is not my laptop.
My cousin is coming from New York this May and he take a connecting flight to Chennai at Dubai. So I’ve asked him to take me a laptop for me. I was planning this Dell XPS M1710. But it’s starting from $2300. The maximum that I want to spend is $1900-2000 only. So I’m going for Asus G1 recommended by Sourabh
Asus G1 gives the bang to your money that you pay. Plus it looks cool as well. Anyway I want to buy XPS M1710 only and hopefull the price gets reduced by that time. I really want to try thing that I didn’t do with my PC like play games, use Linux, show off, etc…
Now waiting for Asus G1 (or hopefully XPS M1710)….

Congrats, Ashwin…
What’s the OS ?
Windows XP Home.
Congrats, colleagues envy owner’s pride !
Congo first.
Company lappy sucks if you use it for work.
Now a days i stopped using it for “work”. Erased everything and installed debian on it.
( I am supposed to get permission for each and every software installation from my company
).
I also wanted to install Linux, but this stupid Network engineer knows nothing abt it (or act in that way).
I can install any program(s) as long as it’s not pirated, but still it sucks. Matter of time before I flaunt my lappy off!!!
congrats man!!!
Cool man, a 6400!
G1 specs are neat, waiting for some reviews and stress tests

No reviews as the net is already crowded with this review. And no stress test as well, as I dont care! Anyway I wont play games in it.
