FIFA World Cup 2006 to be telecasted in DD

Fifa World Cup 2006 telecast
Doordarshan (DD) has clinched deal with ESPN - Star Sports and now matches will be shown live on DD.

This is great news for Soccer fans like me who don’t have access to Pay Channels (due to CAS in Chennai). I thought we would miss the action this time around also. We missed out Euro 2004 due to this CAS BS.

There might be two matches going on simultaneously, so we can watch only one match live. DD and Hindi commentary go together, which sucks. But something is better than nothing.

Hope England wins the World Cup 2006!

Thank god I have still access to these pay channels. I’m fed up of the stupid hindi (and sometimes english too) commentary in DD in this India-Pak series. I mute my tv whenever i hear the following dialogue

“Namashkar, Mein gurpreet sabhi darshakon ko swagat karta hoon aur mera saathi rajeendar ….”

But as you said something is better than nothing. This will be a boon for many who dont have access to cable and pay channels.

And… no England is not gonna win World Cup 2006 :-)

lol.. even I mute the audio when there is a hindi commentary.

But in the commonwealth and Champions Trophy Hockey, there was a guy called Raman Suman. He is a Doctor by profession! He is damn good, knows a great deal about sports. I like his commentary.

Is he the guy who conducts the BSNL Sports quiz or something?

I’m seriously dancing, I’m a mad soccer fan and this has made me damn happy. Ofcourse DD will put all the main matches and 2 semis can’t take place @ same time, so we get to watch most of the good matches.

Cheers!

@Chrono,
Yeah, he is the one. I like him. He is the only one who might have some clue about soccer.

Well, I’am not too sure about whether DD is going to telecast the FIFA World Cup 2006. According to me, if the Hindi Commentators are going to carry on like this, i bet their commentary is going to get much worser and horrible for us to hear. So I recommend them to stay away from commentary for their good future. If you got to enjoy the game,English commentary should be the solution.

Why you are not sure if DD is gonna telecast?

#11 Gokul on 05.05.06 at 3:25 am

Because they usually used to telecast only the highlights and i think its the first time they r ever going to telecast it live.
So it just surprised me. I didn’t even hear any news regarding with the matter in the television. I came to know after visiting this website. Well ESPN will surely telecast. But did DD really clinch deal with ESPN-Star Sports. Or r u kidding?

#12 Ashwin on 05.05.06 at 11:06 am

No, why should I be kidding? I read in a newspaper (Deccan Chronicle, Chennai edition) that DD has clinched a deal with ESPN-SS and will telecast LIVE.

I think DD will. Anyways lets wait and watch. Where r u from?

I’am from Kerala.I’am 20 years old. I’am supporting Brazil and I always will support them in the future. I’am very crazy about soccer. I used to play soccer during my schooldays and I miss all my friends very much. I got crazy about soccer when I started watching a popular soccer cartoon, Captain Tsubasa(Japanese Animated Cartoon)Its a great cartoon to watch. Captain Tsubasa always kept suggesting that “you consider the football as always your friend while you are playing with it”. I considered it in the same way, and then onwards I always used to play good soccer. Well soccer is not at all tough game to play. Take it as a friendly game.

Hey Ashwin thank you very much for your replies.

Signing off,
Gokul.
