Satyam cinemas is Chennai’s best theatre and grosses more money than any cineplex in south India. It has 6 screens with six-degrees being the new addition. In fact it was Satyam cinemas which introduced the concept of cineplex/multiplex in Chennai.
It’s one of the best theatres in Chennai. Being close to my home , makes it even more favourite. I have fond memories associated with this theatre having gone a lot of movies with my friends, cousins, family and relatives. I have seen many hit movies in here.

Why Satyam Cinemas rocks?
Just a few hundred metres from Anna salai (Mount road for me, forever) which is in the heart of Chennai. It’s close to my house, I can just take a walk to reach. They screen Tamil, English, Hindi and sometimes foreign films also.
Satyam Cinemas website, www.thecinema.in (copy this URL and paste in your browsers’ address bar) gives us information about the movies screened, their availability and most important of all we can reserve tickets right from our drawing room. They claim that the queue is dead!
No tickets are sold in “black”.They advertise in The Hindu (all days except Sunday) about the movies which are being screened. All this makes life easier.
Now the ambiance inside the theatre is also very good. They are clean and well maintained. Even the toilets are well maintained. Almost all the toilets in Chennai suck big times with this theatre being a welcome exception! Their staffs are vigilant and refrain any junta who come to have a puff.
The seats are well maintained and not torn. They are comfortable as well. The Ac’s work well and give a cool ambiance.
They have R|D|X sound systems along with DTS Dolby surround. It’s one of the few theaters in India having the ability to screen a movie with digital print.
On the negative side, the ticket prices are on the costly wrt other theaters but hey who cares we don’t get to buy the tickets in “black” and reservation is just a click away!
What’s Cooking?
The present cineplex will have 12 screens and Satyam theater will be split into 3 screens and they will lauch many more of the `Signature’ series like Six Degrees. The company has acquired sites at Kilpauk, on Poonamallee High Road, and Vadapalani for two more multiplexes. They plan to have eight screens at the Kilpauk site and 10 at Vadapalani. Read more about it in The Hindu’s Article: Sathyam Cinemas plans 20 new theatres by 2008
More on Satyam Cinemas here: New and Notable at Satyam Cinemas. It got more information on various things like how to book tickets using Credit Cards, about Blind Date, 4 frames and a small review of the new theater Six Degrees.
So long for Satyam Cinemas…till I catch up with another movie!

Shwetanshu, what Satyam are you talking about?
There is one at Delhi as far as know..
The one that I was talking (in Chennai) is very good and they are gearing up for competition from national multiplex brands, INOX and PVR…
two Janap Plce and Patel Nagar and one at Nehru Place is coming up and also now i m surrounded with cineplex.. fun cinemas, PVR, satyam… all within 1-7 kms, and now with metro coming up, these distances are like just 10 mins… yeah baby
PS: u r pro-ganguly??
Lol.. seems life is treating you well. Cinemas, college masti, MTNL leeching.. By the way what’s the price of the tickets? How good is the “facilities” in the screens?
I used to be, not now. I still feel, he should play in ODIs. Atleast he should be playing as a super-sub.
100 ka morning show, then after 12 its 125, how bout there?? facilities are good, but there’s so much of checking, i think that the security personals there are GAY, they touch u in such places, it feels embarassing
PS: i m not a leacher.

It starts from 50 (maybe 40 also) and goes upto 180 (twin pair of seats), it’s reasonable man. The facilities are too good. The ticket counters are Air Conditioned, it not like a close “enclosure” but a type of open area outside the theater. The seats are good, their signature threaters have leather seats..
Lol here the security men come in toilets and see if we are smoking!
BwT doesn’t seem to open
P.S: I complete the thing that I wanted to tell abt Ganguly, see my previous comment.
all set for one aim
Sathyam Cinemas is alrite buts its noo PVR.Only its newest entrant Six Degrees can compare to a PVR Screen. The Rest of the Screens in Sathyam are only good as far as ambience and comfort is concerned that is.You can tell that this place a old and been converted into a multiplex from a theatre. However the technology used in the Screens is first rate as good as a PVR.Lets see if they can keep up pace with the National Brands. It wont be easy.Bringing out a Press Release telling we are going to set up 3 more multiplexs in Chennai is one thing.Deliverying it and bringing it to reality in quick and acceptable time is another. We will have to see if they are really all talk and no work or not.Only time will tell.Good Luck to u Sathyam!
Six degrees is too costly, IMO. Why would I want to spend rs.130 on a ticket, when I can download the movie (for free) or buy the DVD (for around 400rs.)?
THE FUTURE OF ALL MULTIPLEX AND THE SCREENS THAT WE WILL GET TO SEE INSIDE THEM EVERYWHERE IN CHENNAI,IN ALL ITS UPCOMING MALLS WILL BE IN THE LINE WITH SIX DEGREE/STUDIO 5.EVEN SATHYAM UPCOMING MULTIPLEXS WILL HAVE ONLY 200-250 SEAT SCREENS AND GONE ARE THE DAYS NOW FOR HAVING LARGE AUDITORIUM LIKE SATHYAM THEATRE INSIDE SATHYAM CINEMAS.SIX DEGREES IS THE VERY BEST GOING AROUND THAT IVE SEE FOR IT HAS THE PERFECT AMBIENCE,COMFORT AND WORLD CLASS FEEL THAT TODAY’S CINEMA GOERS ARE LOOKING FOR ALTHOUGH THE SCREEN POSITIONING COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER.THE PRICING IN SIX DEGREES IS AROUND RS.110.NOW THATS FINE COMPARATIVELY THE SAME OR LOWER THAN ANY OF THE NATIONAL MULTIPLEX BRAND OPERATORS CAUSE THEY FOCUS ON GIVING THAT RIGHT AMBIENCE,COMFORT AND THE INTERNATIONAL WORLD-CLASS FEEL WHICH IS WHAT MOST PEOPLE ARE LOOKING FOR NOWDAYS AND WILLING TO PAY THAT LITTLE BIT MORE TO EXPERIENCE THAT FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS.IT HAS TO BE A PERFECT ESCAPE TO PROVIDE THEM WITH THE COMPLETE RELAXATION AWAY FROM THE MADENING WORLD OF WORK THAT MOST OF US ARE SURROUNDED WITH THESEDAYS MOST OF THE TIME.ADDED TO THIS MOST IMPORTANTLY THE CROWD YOU GET TO SEE IS ALSO VERY UNDERSTANDING,RESPECTABLE TO EVERYONES SPACE AND NEEDS IN THE THEATRE KNOWING VERY WELL THAT EVERYONES PAID THE SAME FOR THE EXPERIENCE INSIDE AND DONT BEHAVE CHEAP,CRUDE AND NON-COOPERATIVE,WITH A LACK OF CONSIDERATION FOR THE NEEDS OF EVERYONE AROUND THEM LIKE WHAT YOU WILL FIND IN ALMOST ALL OTHER ANCIENT RUNDOWN THEATRES IN CHENNAI.FOR ENSURED SAFETLY AND SECURITY YOU PAY MORE AND GLADLY I SAY.IT ABOUT TIME WE,CHENNAITES HAVE A FEW NICE AND TRENDY PLACES TO GO IN THIS CITY WITHOUT HAVING TO BURN R POCKETS AND ENDURE THAT UNEASINESS CAUSE DUE TO A LACK OF FULLFILLMENT THAT WHICH WE HAVE HAD TO PUT UP FOR YEARS IN OUR CITY.
Yeah.. even for a good ambience, comfort and good technology, it will be costly for most of the Chennai people.
Remember it’s the so called middle class people who are the repeat audience. The movie’s box office collection is directly proportional to their coming in mass numbers to the theater. They can’t afford more than 60rs.
Yeah we (and myself) am yet to experience this kind of Mall-Cinema concept.
[...] Pirates Of Carribean - Dead Man’s Chest isn’t releasing in the same day as they release in other Indian Cities at Sathyam Cinemas, Chennai. I dunno about other theatres but sathyam guys said it was distribution problems. Screw their “distribution” problems. [...]
[...] It’s no big secret that I love Satyam Cinemas. One good reason is it’s just 10-15 minutes walk and a 5 minutes drive from my place! I had already written about this here: Satyam Cinemas rocks! but I thought I would go on and write something that has come up fresh at Satyam Cinemas. The people over at Satyam have done a magnificent job to transform the whole place. The road where the theater is situated used to be “dull” street - that is without much traffic, but now it’s bustling with activities. It has now become the hangout zone of Chennai. Here’s a picture as how Satyam used to look some 6-7 years ago: (Click on the thumbnail to view a larger photo) [...]
